Short answer:
If you receive a parking fine, speeding fine or other traffic infringement notice that you believe is a borrower’s responsibility, do not make a payment.
Fill in the infringement details, take a photo or scan of the fine and submit it to the help centre.

After you submit a fine
Most of the time we can process it straight away. If we need more information or need to double-check anything, we’ll let you know.
After we process your request, you’ll receive a 'Note to Transfer' by email. You can use the details in the note to nominate the driver, or provide the note to the issuing authority if required. They can then reassign the fine (and any associated demerit points) to the borrower.
You’ll receive $30 to compensate you for the time you spent dealing with the fine.
How to transfer a fine to the responsible borrower
The instructions for transferring a fine to another driver are usually set out on the fine notice. You should follow those instructions.
You will need:
- a copy of the fine or penalty notice
- the Note to Transfer, containing the borrower’s name, address, date of birth, driver licence number and state or country of issue. We will email this to you after you send us a picture or scan of the fine.
Don’t delay. You should take action to transfer the fine promptly, before the due date. If a late payment fee is added to the fine, you will need to pay the late fee.
State by state instructions
The processes below do not apply to parking fines that are issued by a local council. Each council has its own forms and process. Check the fine notice for instructions on how to transfer the fine.
- Visit the Fines Victoria Nominate Website
- Follow the online prompts to nominate the responsible driver, using the borrower’s details we sent to you in the Note to Transfer
- Retain proof that you have completed the nomination, such as a receipt number or screenshot of the successful submission
- If the online form doesn't allow for the attachment of supporting documents, please submit the Note to Transfer through the issuing authority's online enquiry form referencing the penalty or obligation number of the fine.
You must nominate the responsible driver within 28 days of the issue date if the fine is for an excessive speed, drink driving or drug driving offence, or otherwise, before the due date.
If the fine reaches the Notice of Final Demand or Enforcement Warrant stage of the fines lifecycle, you can no longer nominate another driver. You may be able to request a review from Fines Victoria within the 7-day notice period.

Because peer-to-peer car sharing is fairly new in South Australia, the fines administrators aren't familiar with the system.
When submitting the fine nomination form to the police, tick the first box "driven by the person whose details are listed below". It should be accepted as a regular nomination.
If you're asked for further evidence
If you are asked to provide more information, forward the request to us. We will provide further evidence of the responsible party to the issuing authority directly.
Making a statutory declaration while overseas
If you are currently overseas, you'll be able to find an authorised witness at your nearest Australian Embassy, high commission or consulate, but there are other ways we can help too.
For fines incurred in Victoria, New South Wales or Queensland, you don't need to make a statutory declaration, just follow the instructions on the fine to nominate the responsible borrower and be sure to submit the note to transfer we sent you.

Could not find it under Help center
"
Take a photo or scan of the fine notice it and upload it via the Help Centre (click 'Help' in the top menu when you're logged in to your account). "
Hi Remy, when you go to the Help Centre, you select the car involved, and then the borrower/trip involved (if you know it) and then you're given the range of issues to choose from, including "Speeding or traffic fines". I'll update the article to add some clarity!
Clicking help doesn't take you to the screen where you can log a ticket. Searching log a ticket doesn't seem to work either. Its a never ending loop of help and 'how to transfer the fine'!
Hi Natalie, it should take you to a screen where you can select the trip that the fine occurred in, or if you're not sure which trip it was, select "Get help with this car" instead, and you'll be given the different options available, including "Speeding or traffic fines".
Hi. I need an urgent reply for my ticket #1000274 it’s because the fine is due already and just notice it last week. It’s not mine but it’s the borrower.
Hi Loraine, I can see that we sent you the information you needed for that fine a few hours after you posted here. If you need any more help with it, just reply to that ticket.
Hi there,
I have uploaded the fine for a borrower on to the form, its been a week.
But I haven't heard back from customer service. Can you help escalate this?
Hi Yean, is this about the fine you uploaded on 19 May? It looks like our team sent back the instructions to transfer on 20 May. You may need to check your email spam folder to make sure it hasn't been sent somewhere other than your inbox.
I the borrower have heard of a fine I am responsible for but no details seem available, I don’t know what the offence was, only the date
Hi Shayne, if the Owner receives a fine after your trip, we will check the booking records to see who had the car at the time. If the records show that you are responsible for the fine, Car Next Door will provide your details to the Owner or their authorised representative, who will tell the issuing authority that you are responsible for the fine. The agency will re-issue the fine directly to you.
