It’s your responsibility to manage and respond to car safety issues as they arise to ensure it’s safe to drive.

If we receive a report, raising concerns about whether your car is safe to drive, we may:

  • make your car unavailable for sharing whilst you fix the issue
  • cancel future bookings
  • require you to send through documents that the car is safe and that it is roadworthy

In this guide:

Car safety report

You may receive a car safety report if a borrower finds an issue during their booking.

About car safety report
These reports contain information on what the issue is, as well as any photos or videos the borrower includes.

You may also get next steps for fixing the issue.

These reports are emailed to you for review and are only visible to you -   it’s not public

Fixing car safety issues

1. Review the issue

If you get a car safety report, review the report and your car.

What if it’s not an issue?

If you don’t think it’s an issue or it’s been resolved recently send through documents that shows it’s roadworthy and/or the issue has been fixed.

2. Arrange repairs

Arrange for the issue to be fixed.

For some issues, we may require you to arrange an inspection for roadworthiness with a mechanic who hasn’t worked on your car in the past 12 months.

We’ll let you know if this is required.

3. In the meantime, we may contact you

We’ll also review the issue and may provide you with next steps within 24 hours of sending the car safety report.

Next steps depend on:

  • the issue reported
  • if you’ve had repeat safety issues before for the car

As a result, we may:

  • make your car unavailable for sharing
  • cancel future bookings

We’ll let you know directly in our follow-up with you.

4. Once fixed, email us documents

  1. Email us documents that show the issue has been fixed and your car is roadworthy.
  2. We’ll review these documents
  3. We’ll then work with you to get your car available for sharing again.

Documents to send

We’ll let you know the types of documents to email us.

For some issues, we may ask for:

  • a video that shows the whole car and that the issue is fixed
  • an additional photo of the fixed issue
- optional

For other issues we may ask for a document that clearly shows:

  • Car’s registration
  • Date
  • Mechanic’s name and business number

 The document must show that:

  • the issue has been fixed
  • the car is roadworthy

This includes any other requirements specified in our communication with you.
