Short answer:

When you borrow cars on our platform, you'll pay an hourly or daily rate plus a rate per mile. The per-mile rate includes fuel, and also compensates the owner for all the other operating costs associated with your driving, like tire wear and servicing.

Distance rates

Each car has a distance rate which varies depending on what type of vehicle it is.

Electric vehicles

$0.14/mi
Cars $0.23/mi
SUVs $0.28/mi
Vans/minivans $0.36/mi

Each car's distance rate is displayed on its profile and in the search results. Keep in mind that borrowers also pay an additional 6c/mi for vehicle protection.

After your trip has ended – or at intervals during your trip if you’re driving long distances – we'll calculate how far you drove and charge you for each mile according to the distance rate.

What the distance rate includes

The distance rate includes all the gas you use and helps to cover the owner's other running costs from your driving. Running costs include things like tire wear, servicing costs, and general wear and tear on the car. You’ll also pay an additional 6c/mi for vehicle protection.

 Important

You must return the car with at least 1/4 of a tank of gas. If it is left with less, there is a fee applicable. See buying fuel during a trip for how to refuel the car and get reimbursed.

Progressive payments for long trips

In most cases, distance charges are only charged after your trip has ended. For longer trips, we'll charge you $500 each time the distance you've driven reaches that value.

How far is $500? It depends on the distance rate of the car you've booked:

  • At 14c/mi, $500 is 3571mi
  • At 23c/mi, $500 is 2174mi
  • At 28c/mi, $500 is 1786mi
  • At 36c/mi, $500 is 1389mi

You can view your current estimated distance 24 hours after your trip has started in the app.

You'll receive an email and a push notification each time you reach the distance threshold ($500, $1,000 and $1,500) and we'll charge your payment method overnight. If you won't be able to make the payment, please contact us right away.
