What happens if you get a citation during a trip

Short answer:

If you get a speeding, parking or other traffic citation or infringement notice while borrowing a car (including where the car gets a parking citation after you leave it), you'll be responsible for paying the citation plus a $30 admin fee, and taking any associated point violations.

If you're issued a citation during your trip

If you're issued a citation during your trip, pay it straight away and email a photo of the citation to members@ubercarshare.com with proof of payment.

This will prevent the owner from receiving a copy of the citation from the authorities, and you’ll avoid having to pay an additional fee under the Fee Schedule for transferring the citation to your name.

If the owner is sent a citation after your trip

Citations with point violations

If you're responsible for a citation with point violations, we'll attempt to work with the owner and issuing agency to reassign the citation and point violations to you. We'll also charge you a $30 admin fee.

Citations without point violations

If you're responsible for a citation without point violations, we'll charge you for the cost of the citation and pass it on to the owner so they can pay the citation. We'll also charge you a $30 admin fee.

If you think you have been assigned a citation incorrectly

You can contest the citation with the relevant authority once it's in your name.

If you were sharing the driving with another user and the citation was incurred while they were driving, you'll need to contact the issuing authority to get it reassigned to the other member.

Remember: if the car gets a parking citation in the place you left it, you're responsible – no matter how long it's been since your trip ended.
