Inconvenience and administrative fees | US

To make sure that all users have a good experience, we rely on borrowers and car owners to do the right thing for their fellow community members.

In the event that a borrower or owner does not follow the Terms or Service or otherwise causes an inconvenience for fellow users, we will charge fees and penalties in order to:

  • compensate other users who have been put out by the actions of other users
  • help to cover our administrative costs associated with “the fix”

These fees/penalties are subject to change in Uber’s sole discretion, and are in addition to any other fines you may receive related to any incident that may occur while you are borrowing a car (e.g. fines associated with parking tickets).

Traffic and parking

If an owner receives a traffic or parking fine that needs to be transferred to you, or if the owner has to move the car because you parked it incorrectly, you will be charged a fee in addition to the cost of any fines you receive.

Transferring a traffic or parking fine $30

This fee is charged to help compensate the owner and us for time spent in attempting to  transfer traffic into the name of the responsible borrower. This fee is not charged if the borrower pays the fine before the owner is notified.

Please note that the borrower is also responsible for parking fines that are incurred when they leave the car in a place where it gets a parking fine after their trip ends.

$20 of this fee is passed on to the car's owner and $10 goes to Uber Carshare.

Parked illegally or incorrectly $50
This fee is charged when a borrower parks the car illegally (such as in parking space where it may only be left for a limited amount of time, facing the wrong direction, or obscuring a driveway), or contrary to the car's parking instructions – even if no parking fine is incurred. $40 of this fee is passed on to the owner and $10 goes to Uber Carshare.
Tow or impound recovery variable

This amount is charged to cover the cost of car recovery when a car is towed or impounded as a result of the borrower parking the car illegally. This cost is in addition to any parking fees or fines charged by Uber Carshare or local authorities.

Costs associated with towing will be charged to borrowers within 7 days of the trip’s end. The amount charged will cover the cost of towing, impounding and storage costs up to the first 72 hours. After 72 hours, storage costs are the owner’s responsibility. 100% of this amount is passed on to the owner.
